Baluchi’s on 2nd Avenue (E.89th St) in Manhattan has Live Roaches.

Yes, that’s what the recent (Dec 23, 2011) New York City Health Department’s inspection unearthed at Baluchi’s Indian restaurant at 1724 2nd Ave (E.89th St):

Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

Well, we suppose roaches are an improvement over the evidence of rats found in Baluchi’s previous inspection by the NYC Health Dept. (Dec. 7, 2011).

Baluchi’s ended up with a disgusting 98-violation points in the December 23, 2011 inspection.

Baluchi’s Indian Food – Poor Hygiene

Besides the Live Roaches problem, the December 23, 2011 NYC Health inspection also uncovered filth/FRSA flies and potential food contamination issues at Baluchi’s:

Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.

Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.

Baluchi’s Indian Food – Other Critical Violations

In addition to the live roaches, filth/FRSA flies, Baluchi’s at 1724 2nd Avenue in Manhattan also has the following critical violations:

Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided.

Baluchi’s Indian restaurant at 240 W 56th St in Manhattan now has a ‘B’ problem.

This is besides the million $$ nightmare of Baluchi’s owner Rakesh Aggarwal and closure of Baluch’s Spring St location by the New York City Health Department.

The ‘B’ problem of Baluchi’s on W 56th Street is the hygiene grade issued by the NYC Health Dept.

And it is a shameful B as Baluchi’s W.56th St sanitary violation score is 22.

Baluchi’s Rakesh Aggarwal’s Nightmare – Chapter 2

When it comes to most Indian restaurants in New York City, the question to ask is how low can these shitholes go.

The answer: Really, really low.

Believe us, guys. Believe us.

Shameless Scumbags

First, these Indian restaurants should start hiring real chefs not clueless buffoons who don’t know their way around the kitchen.

Second, scumbags who own restaurants like Baluchi’s (W.56th St) should pay their employees a living wage and stop stealing from diners. Hey, you low-life owner of Baluchi’s why the hell do you impose a gratuity on dining parties of less than four when your menu clearly states in unambiguous language that the 18% gratuity is for parties of four or more. In our lexicon, this is a crooked, disgraceful practice. We are inclined to send a photo of your menu and a copy of our bill to the New York Attorney General’s office to investigate your restaurant for cheating.

Third, wait-staff at Indian restaurants like Baluchi’s (W.56th St) should be taught the basics like providing clean plates, offering knives and forks with the food, refilling water-glasses and stop texting/fiddling with mobile phones in the dining hall.

Baluchi’s Rakesh Aggarwal’s Nightmare – Chapter 2

Poor Rakesh Aggarwal could soon become Poorer Rakesh Aggarwal.

Poorer?

Yes, after all, the man behind the Baluchi’s Indian restaurant chain in New York City now might have to fork out close to a million dollars ($967,000 to be precise) in a proposed legal settlement with some of his current and former employees.

Our heart goes out to the Aggarwal bloke.

A million dollars is still a lot of money.

Plus the whole legal process of the last 18 months, including the depositions, must have been very stressful to Baluchi’s owner Rakesh Aggarwal.

We won’t be surprised if the legal stress has subtracted a few years from Rakesh’s life.
