Who on the earth would have thought that a mediocre Indian restaurant Moksha would be replaced by a fine Indian restaurant like Taj Tribeca on Murray Street in Manhattan’s financial district.

Yes folks, Taj Tribeca is in the same location (18 Murray St) as the now closed Moksha restaurant.

We visited Taj Tribeca the other day while walking around financial district.

Here’s NYIndia’s food photo review of what we tasted at Taj Tribeca during our lunch visit:

There are bad Indian restaurants in Jackson Heights.

And then there are the really bad Indian restaurants like Tawa Tandoor on 74th St.

We’ve rarely come across Indian restaurants as clueless as the Tawa Tandoor jokers in Jackson Heights when it comes to Indian curries.

During our visit to Tawa Tandoor, we sampled a variety of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian curries, much of it bad.

Here’s NYIndia’s photo review of Tawa Tandoor in Jackson Heights.

As anyone who’s ever been to an Indian restaurant in NYC can tell you, they are the crappiest, most unwelcome places on Earth.

Wobbly tables, litter on the floor, harsh lighting, trashy furniture and dirty toilets are all par for the course when you step into an Indian restaurant.

But it comes as a surprise to learn that even fancy places like Tulsi (211 E.46th St, Midtown East) have come under the harsh glare of some critics.

The New York Times, while praising Tulsi’s food, wasn’t too pleased with the ambiance inside the restaurant, the latest venture of Hemant Mathur.

Here’s an excerpt from the NYT review:

Too bad, then, that Tulsi’s lighting is harsh, and that the service style runs more to chain-restaurant gab than anything approaching the hushed, pajama-clad grace of Devi. Too bad, too, that behind its Continue reading »

Baluchi’s Rakesh Aggarwal’s Nightmare – Chapter 2

When it comes to most Indian restaurants in New York City, the question to ask is how low can these shitholes go.

The answer: Really, really low.

Believe us, guys. Believe us.

Shameless Scumbags

First, these Indian restaurants should start hiring real chefs not clueless buffoons who don’t know their way around the kitchen.

Second, scumbags who own restaurants like Baluchi’s (W.56th St) should pay their employees a living wage and stop stealing from diners. Hey, you low-life owner of Baluchi’s why the hell do you impose a gratuity on dining parties of less than four when your menu clearly states in unambiguous language that the 18% gratuity is for parties of four or more. In our lexicon, this is a crooked, disgraceful practice. We are inclined to send a photo of your menu and a copy of our bill to the New York Attorney General’s office to investigate your restaurant for cheating.

Third, wait-staff at Indian restaurants like Baluchi’s (W.56th St) should be taught the basics like providing clean plates, offering knives and forks with the food, refilling water-glasses and stop texting/fiddling with mobile phones in the dining hall.
