Some Indian restaurants in NYC are incorrigible where hygiene is concerned.
Brick Lane Curry House owned by Satinder Sharma on E.6th St in NYC is one such restaurant.
You see Brick Lane Curry House was first issued a B on October 19, 2010.
Now for the second consecutive time Brick Lane Curry House has been issued a B by the New York City Health Department based on the inspection conducted on June 4, 2011.
How disgusting!
What a shame that Indian restaurants in NYC like Brick Lane in East Village fail to provide a hygienic environment to paying diners.
Brick Lane Curry House scored 20 Violation Points in the June 4, 2011 inspection.
As per the NYC Health Dept. guidelines, an inspection score of 0-13 is an A, 14-27 points gets a B, and restaurants with 28 or more points are handed a C.
With 20 points, Brick Lane now has to continue to suffer the mortification of displaying its shameful B Grade where it can easily be seen by people passing by.
Here are some of the sanitary violations cited by NYC Health Dept while re-issuing B to Brick Lane Curry House:
* Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
* Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
* Mechanical or natural ventilation system not provided, improperly installed, in disrepair and/or fails to prevent excessive build-up of grease, heat, steam condensation vapors, odors, smoke, and fumes.
* Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained and/or not properly sealed, raised, spaced or movable to allow accessibility for cleaning on all sides, above and underneath the unit.
* Other general violation.
Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service?
Sure sounds scary when health insurance is increasingly becoming unaffordable.
