Darbar Grill Runs into Hygiene Problems Again

Important Update at the End on Darbar Grill B Grade & Bribery Charges

OMG, Darbar Grill Indian restaurant on East 55rd Street in NYC is facing major hygiene issues yet again.

Darbar Grill received a whopping 46 Violation Points in a recent (June 16, 2011) New York City Health Department inspection.

According to the NYC Health Dept inspection report of June 16, 2011, Darbar Grill NYC has evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

Disgusting!

Also, food at Darbar Grill is not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.

Horrible!

Readers of this fine blog and aficionados of Indian food in New York City may recollect that Darbar Grill was closed by NYC Health Dept. on March 22, 2011 on hygiene grounds and reopened subsequently.

What a shame that some NYC Indian restaurants display a callous attitude toward hygiene issues.

Here is the complete list of Sanitary Violations at Darbar Grill NYC Indian restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, according to the NYC Health Dept’s June 16, 2011 inspection report (Critical Violations in red):

1) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
2) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
3) Wiping cloths soiled or not stored in sanitizing solution.
4) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
5) Thawing procedures improper.

Though Darbar Grill NYC received 46 Violation Points in its June 16, 2011 health inspection, its hygiene grade is marked pending as it likely has appealed to the Administrative Tribunal.

By the way, Darbar Grill serves some of the worst Indian food we’ve been unfortunate enough to eat in New York City.

Important Update:

Darbar Grill – B- Grade

Darbar Gril NYC was issued B- Grade based on July 6, 2011 inspection report in which the restaurant received 16 Violation Points.

This is the second time that the restaurant has been issued a B-Grade on hygiene after the grading system was started by the NYC Health Dept. Darbar Grill received B-Grade based on October 10, 2010 health inspection report.
