Folks, if we’ve said it once we’ve said it a million times – Indian restaurants in NYC are notoriously dirty and unhygienic.

Take for instance, the Midtown East Indian restaurant Tadka NYC at 229, East 53rd St, Manhattan.

After an inspection of Tadka on April 26, 2011, the New York City  Heath Department has recently put out a report on the restaurant and, frankly speaking, it makes for disgusting reading.

Tadka NYC has Live Roaches

Tadka NYC – Live Roaches

Never one for great hygiene, Tadka NYC’s hygiene situation seems to have gotten worse lately if you go by the number of Violation Points it received in the latest health inspection compared to its previous inspection:

April 26, 2011 – 35 Violation Points

May 11, 2010 – 24 Violation Points

There is more folks.

It is not just the jump in total violation points that’s depressing. The type of hygiene violations at Tadka are also a cause for concern.

For instance, the following hygiene issue was cited in the NYC Health Dept. inspection report of Tadka on April 26, 2011:

Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

Live roaches in a restaurant? Folks, that is so sick.

Besides the issue of live roaches, the April 26, 2011 NYC health inspection of Tadka also unearthed the following violations:

Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.

Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.

BTW, the NYC Health Dept. considers live roaches, potential food contamination and adulteration issues as critical violations and highlights them in red color.

Here is the full list of Sanitary Violations observed at Tadka NYC during the April 26, 2011 inspection: (Critical Violations in red color):
