Copper Chimney Indian restaurant is slipping on hygiene.

Slipping badly, folks.

A recent inspection by the New York City Health Department found raw, cooked or prepared food at Copper Chimney on E.28th St and Lexington Avenue in New York City to be adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.

Besides the food adulteration issues, the NYC Health Dept. inspection report of September 17, 2010 also cites inadequate personal cleanliness, outer garment soiled with possible contaminant and effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared.

Copper Chimney – Poor Hygiene

Copper Chimney located at 128 E 28 St at Lexington Ave in Curry Hill area of NYC received a whopping 39 Violation Points in its September 17, 2010 NYC health inspection.

Sanitary Violations observed at Copper Chimney during the September 17, 2010 inspection:
(Critical Violations in red color):

*1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
2) Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.
3) Appropriately scaled metal stem-type thermometer or thermocouple not provided or used to evaluate temperatures of potentially hazardous foods during cooking, cooling, reheating and holding.
4) Personal cleanliness inadequate. Outer garment soiled with possible contaminant. Effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared.
5) Sanitized equipment or utensil, including in-use food dispensing utensil, improperly used or stored.

6) Other general violation.

Though Copper Chimney, Lexington Avenue received 39 violation points, the restaurant is not yet graded and has yet to go through the NYC Health Dept’s new graded inspection program.

But, if you hypothetically go by the new grading system, Copper Chimney Indian Restaurant would have got C grade for scoring 39 violation points.

Update:

Copper Chimney was issued a C-Grade based on the health inspection conducted on on March 30, 2011 in which it received 28 Violation Points.
