Tadka Indian restaurant located on E 53rd St in Midtown East Manhattan is not vermin proof and harborage or conditions conducive to vermin infestation exist, says the New York City Department of Health following its inspection of this restaurant on May 11, 2010.

Besides the vermin issues, food contact surface at Tadka is not properly maintained, or not washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred and there is evidence of, or live mice in facility’s food and/ or non-food areas according to the NYC Health Dept. inspection report of May 11, 2010.

In addition to the vermin, food contact surface and evidence of, or live mice issues Tadka, which is part of Bollywood actor Shiva Natarajan’s Chola group, also notched up some weird violations.

Man, one of the violation points noted by NYC Health Dept.’s inspection report of May 11, 2010 was the strange:

Document issued by the Board of Health, Commissioner or Department unlawfully reproduced or altered.

Unlawfully reproducing or altering a document issued by Board of health, Commissioner or Department? Doesn’t sound kosher, does it?

After failing the April 08, 2010 health inspection, Raga has been closed by New York City Health Department.

While closing Raga Indian restaurant located at 58 West 56th St in Midtown West Manhattan, the NYC Health Dept. cited several sanitary violations like facility not vermin proof, evidence of, or live roaches in facility’s food and/ or nonfood areas, evidence of/or live mice in facility’s food and/or non-food areas, food is not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service etc.

Raga Indian restaurant received 52 violation points and failed the NYC Health Dept. inspection conducted on April 8, 2010.

To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 violation points or less.

Sanitary Violations observed at Raga during the April 8, 2010 inspection:

1.) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained.
2.) Food contact surface not properly maintained.
3.) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to vermin infestation exist.
4.) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.

Indian Taj restaurant located at 37-25 on 74th St, Jackson Heights has ‘Other live animal present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas,’ says the New York City Health Department after inspecting the restaurant on May 5, 2010.

Besides the other live animal issue, the NYC Health Dept. report also mentions that food contact surface is not properly maintained, plumbing is not properly installed or maintained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly at Indian Taj.

Indian Taj, according to the NYC Health inspection report of May 5, 2010 also has trans fat violations and a food containing artificial trans fat, with 0.5 grams or more of trans fat per serving, is being stored, distributed, held for service, used in preparation of a menu item, or served.

Indian Taj restaurant (37-25 on 74 St, Jackson Heights, NY)  received 23 violation points in its May 5, 2010 NYC Health Dept. inspection and passed the inspection.

To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 Violation Points or less.

Sanitary Violations observed at Indian Taj, Jackson Heights during the May 5, 2010 NYC Health Dept. inspection:

1.) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained.
2.) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.

Sapphire Indian restaurant located at 1845 on Broadway in Manhattan is not vermin proof, harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist and there is evidence of, or live mice in the facility’s food and/or non-food areas  says, the New York City Department of Health following its inspection of this restaurant on April 27, 2010.

The NYC Health Dept. also said the restaurant’s non-food contact surface is improperly constructed and non-food contact surface or equipment is improperly maintained.

To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 violation points or less.

Sapphire received 23 violation points and passed the NYC Health Dept. inspection of April 27, 2010.

Sanitary Violations observed at Sapphire during the April 27, 2010 inspection:

1.) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained.
2.) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to vermin infestation exist.
