Raw, cooked or prepared food at celebrity chef Suvir Saran’s Devi is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, says the New York City Health Department after inspecting this Manhattan Indian restaurant on September 9, 2009.
The NYC Health Dept. inspection report of September 9, 2009 also noted that personal hygiene at Devi is inadequate and clean outer garments, effective hair restraint is not worn.
Devi Indian Restaurant located at 8 East 18th St in Manhattan received 26 Violation Points in its September 9, 2009 inspection and barely managed to pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection.
To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 Violation Points or less.
Sanitary Violations observed at Devi during the September 9, 2009 inspection:
1.) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained.
2.) Lighting inadequate. Bulb not shielded or shatterproof.
3.) Personal hygiene inadequate. Clean outer garments, effective hair restraint not worn.

Shiva Natarajan’s Tadka has Evidence of Live Mice: NYC Health Dept.
Tadka Indian restaurant located on E 53rd Street in Midtown East Manhattan has evidence of live mice and flying insects in the facility’s food and/ or non-food areas, says the New York City Department of Health following its inspection of this restaurant on August 11, 2009.
According to the August 11, 2009 NYC Health Dept’s inspection report, Tadka facility is also not vermin proof and harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist.

To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 violation points or less.
Tadka passed NYC Health Dept. inspection conducted on August 11, 2009 by receiving 20 violation points.
