Sewage disposal system is in disrepair or not functioning properly and plumbing is not properly installed or maintained at Tamarind Restaurant on E.22nd St, says the New York City Department of Health after inspecting this Indian restaurant on June 29, 2009.

In its inspection report of June 29, 2009, the NYC Health Dept. also said that non-food contact surface is improperly constructed and non-food contact surface or equipment is improperly maintained at Tamarind Restaurant.

Tamarind Restaurant located at 41-43 East 22nd St in Manhattan received 51 Violation Points in its June 29, 2009 inspection and failed the NYC Health Dept. inspection.

To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 Violation Points or less.

Sanitary Violations observed at Tamarind Restaurant during the June 29, 2009 inspection:

1.) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained.
2.) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.
3.) Food Source
4.) Cold food held above 41°F (smoked fish above 38°F) except during necessary preparation.
5.) Hot food not held at or above 140°F.

The NYC Dept. of Health said a Notice of Violation was not issued as a result of this inspection and that the violation point total received by Tamarind Restaurant is above the average violation point total of 14 for all NYC restaurants on their most recent inspection.

However, Tamarind Restaurant requires Compliance Inspection, according to NYC Health Dept’s June 29, 2009 inspection report.
