Chola located at 232 E 58th St in New York City has evidence of roaches or live roaches present in the facility’s food and/or non-food areas, the facility is not vermin proof and harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist, according to a recent New York City Department of Health inspection.
During its inspection of Chola Indian restaurant in midtown Manhattan on March 16, 2009, the NYC Health Dept. also found ‘food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.’
To pass the NYC Health Dept. inspection, a restaurant must receive 27 violation points or less.
Chola received 17 violation points and passed the NYC Health Dept. inspection of March 16, 2009.
Sanitary Violations observed at Chola during the March 16, 2009 NYC Health Dept. inspection:
1.) “Choking first aid” poster not posted.”Alcohol and Pregnancy” Warning sign not posted. “Wash hands” sign not posted at hand wash facility. Resuscitation equipment: exhaled air resuscitation masks(adult & pediatric), latex gloves, sign not posted. Inspection report sign not posted.
2.) Food contact surface not properly maintained.
3.) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist.
4.) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
5.) Evidence of roaches or live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
The NYC Dept. of Health said a Notice of Violation was not issued as a result of this inspection and that the violation point total received by Chola is above the average violation point total of 16 for all NYC restaurants on their most recent inspection.
